[MAINT]: Increase JaCoCo numbers

Describe the need

PR #53 53 indicates a large drop in JaCoCo coverage, down from 85% to 78%.

Look at the last few commits for opportunities to create new tests that cover hitherto not covered code execution paths. Get the JaCoCo number back up to at least 85%.

Look especially at newly added commits for PR #52.
